Middle School Overview
In the fall of 2008, I started 6th grade at Grapevine Middle School. Middle school is cool because that's when kids get to start exploring their interests. In 6th grade, we got to choose between choir, band, art, or theater for our fine arts elective. Honestly, it was a hard choice, because all of those sounded cool to me,but I decided to go with band. I took a chance and auditioned for percussion, and I made it! Apparently years of piano lessons came in handy. Little did I know, this would be the start of my whole life for the next several years.
Not only was I in percussion, but I was also in jazz band.
Most of my memorable experiences from middle school, other than my memories of being in band, come from the classes I took. I was in all GT and Pre-AP classes, and so I had many of the same people in my classes all throughout the years. It was really fun to have a schedule like this, and to get to know those people and build a community. I remember doing a lot of progressive style learning, especially in 7th and 8th grade in my GT classes. We competed in Future Problem Solving competitions every year. In 8th grade we acted out the Alexander Hamilton trial. Also in 8th grade, I was in PALS, so I was paired with kids at nearby elementary school, and we got to visit and hangout with them once a week. Overall, I really enjoyed middle school and I have a lot of great memories from those three years.
