Elementary School Overview

In the fall of 2002, I started kindergarten at Cannon Elementary School in Grapevine, TX. I remember my dad dropping me off in the car line on the first day of school, while everyone else's parents walked them in. My mom couldn't believe he just let me walk in alone. He said he was confident that I knew what I was doing. Some of the things I specifically remember learning were adding 2 and 3 digit numbers in 1st grade, counting money in 2nd grade, and long division in 4th grade. In 1st grade, I was one of 4 kids in my grade in PAT, which stood for "program for academically talented" As the years went on, the program grew and by the time we were in 5th grade, there were 15-20 kids in PAT. We got taken out of class one day a week to go to PAT, and those were some of my favorite elementary school memories. In 5th grade, those of us in PAT got to go to Enterprise City with 2 other elementary schools, and we got to run the town for the day. Each school was given a few businesses to run and we split the responsibilities. Cannon got City Hall, the radio station, the local news, and a souvenir shop. I got to be the camera girl for the news station, which, if you know me, is quite fitting because I still enjoy filming and editing videos to this day. In 2nd grade, I won First place in my school's Reflection Contest for photography. In 5th grade, I made it to state and got 4th place in writing. I loved how much creativity was encouraged in elementary school. There was much more interactive learning and projects, and very few tests. I suppose this is common in elementary school, but that's what stands out to me the most.
